New Front Rotors & Pads!

I thought my rotors might last through Nationals; nope!  This pic is of the LF and yep that's a nice looking crack.
The RF actually does not look too bad.  Obviously I'm pulling these off in favor of a new set and putting in new pads as well.

More of the same; Stoptech front slotted and directionally veined rotors with Hawk DTC60 pads all coming from Jay at Andrews Racing.  Check out his new website and don't hesitate to hit him up for advice on your setup: http://andrew-racing.com/

Brembo Caliper Maintenance.

I had to pull the rotors & pads off last week as I was working on a big comparison test (coming soon). So I didn't stop there.

I thought about my schedule and I already have 6 days on track in 2011. I usually run 16-18 per year so I'm nearly 1/3 of the way complete! And since I skipped redoing the caliper seals this winter; I figure why not now! Yeah...  Better to take care of it now than have an issue during a track weekend or even worse; at Nationals in September!

I mean hell, the calipers were already unbolted - they have to be to get the rotors off. So I grabbed the 9/16" and loosened the brake lines on each side and tore into the calipers.  The Evo's stock brembo's are very easy to switch out pads, and not too hard to do the seals.

Brake Bleeding.

More maintenance this weekend.  Getting down to the last of it though.  I pulled all the brake pads and checked them, the brake lines and the rotors - all for premature wear.  Looking good although my front Girodisc rotors are already showing some minor spider-cracking after just 3 trackdays of use.  We'll see how long they last!
.
I greased up the pads and put them back in.  I then flushed the entire system with new AMSOIL DOT4 brake fluid.  A quick test drive revealed a solid pedal; verifying things are ok.

This is about the last of the 'off-season' maintenance!

Ready for Redline Time Attack - Autobahn!

Wow, what a crazy few days.

If you read the previous post, I've been working on redoing the brakes seals as they've started to leak. I got everything together but came home to a big puddle of fluid on the floor Tuesday night (with a track weekend fast approaching). I ripped apart the caliper and found a chuck missing from one of my new seals. Check out the pic!
I made quick calls to AMS for brake fluid and Girodisc for a few replacement seals. Gotta love overnight express!
Thursday everything got delivered. I put in the new seal, bled all the corners again and went for a testdrive. A quick stab of the brakes (with my eyes closed) and the car slammed to a stop. I pulled some more speed and pushed them hard and locked up a front tire. SUCCESS! Did a few more stops to bed in my new pads to the new calipers. Then rolled back home to finally register for the event about 10pm on Thursday night and pack up for the trip!

Bottom line, got the car loaded and ready to make the trip towards Chicago to compete in my first Redline Time Attack event!
